About UPSC Themes
A free, non-commercial study aid for UPSC Civil Services aspirants. It regroups 810 GS1, GS2 and GS3 Mains questions (2013–2026) into 171 themes so related topics from different papers can be prepared together.
Sources
- Questions: Civil Services (Main) Examination papers published by the Union Public Service Commission. Copyright, if any, remains with UPSC.
- Prelims questions (PYQs of the day): Civil Services (Preliminary) GS Paper I, 2013–2026. Answers follow the published answer keys. UPSC releases its official key only after the final result, so 2026 answers are not yet final. Questions UPSC dropped are left out.
- Syllabus: the GS Mains syllabus in the CSE notification (52 lines across GS1–GS3).
How themes were formed
The theme map and prep notes are this site's own work. Each question was read against the syllabus and placed in the one theme it fits best. Where answering it well needs another theme, that theme is linked on the question ("Also needs") or on the theme ("Linked themes"). Counts, years and directive words are computed from the data.
Known gaps
- 2019 is missing for GS1 and GS3; GS2 2019 has 10 questions.
- Question text is being checked against the official papers. Some entries may still carry typos from the compilation they came from.
- Marks are missing for most questions before 2022.
Report an error
Every question has a "Report a typo" link that opens a GitHub issue with its ID. You can also open an issue directly.
